The River

The water ran down the river.

It shone in the light of the day.

The wind was a fawn.

Birds sang in the distance.

The fall leaves blazed amber trails

as they fell slowly in the breeze.

The water rises up from the earth.

The air is crisp

above the fish swimming in the river.

Everything pulls me here. I am home.

Dance of the Night

1 The sky swept darkness

over solemn trees.

Lights flickered in the distance.

Sleepers dreamed, huddled in houses.

The moon and stars embraced,

but the darkness was bitter.

The world turns away.

2 The smell of fresh cut grass filled my nose.

Crickets sang in the distance.

Trees danced slowly in the light breeze.

I sat on damp grass and savored the sweet air.

I shared the darkness with the stars and moon

as the world turned toward me.
